Vastu or Sthapatya Veda is an ancient tradition of architecture, which establishes a relationship between the building and the cosmic order so as to have a nourishing influence on its occupants. There are strict rules regarding site location, orientation to Cardinal points, room layout and proportions, and the use of natural and non-toxic materials. These rules pushed all the professionals involved, as well as the owners, to design and construct a truly remarkable home.

This Vastu home was designed and built through a remarkably creative and collaborative process amongst the owners; the architect, Joy Cuming, and her firm Aline Architecture Inc.; Cregg Sweeney, LLC, and our team of artisan builders and craftsmen, and the landscape designer, Betsy Furtney, principal of Landline Design, and her crew.

In building the Vastu home, Cregg had to uphold a degree of precision for overall dimensions and specific cardinal dimensions ordinarily unheard of in construction. The team respected the precise nature of the project and held every aspect of their work to the same degree of precision and accuracy. This degree of precision and fineness was passed on from the foundation to the frame and on to each successive trade.
